Shorinji’s zazen sessions are open to everyone, no matter their level of experience.
Please wear comfortable clothing suited to sitting.
Zen emanates Buddha’s truth. Buddha attained enlightenment after sitting in meditation under a Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya for seven days and nights. The ‘za’ in zazen means ‘to sit.’ Relax your body, sit still in a set posture, and fix your mind on one point. Steady, deep breaths unify the body and mind. ‘Za’ is the harmony of the body, breath and mind.
Zen is the Chinese translation of the Sanskrit, dhyana, or meditation. Zazen is the gradual unification of your body, breath, and mind through seated meditation.
